MEDALS

For many people, this is their first step in taking their dancing a little more seriously! It consists of you learning a basic routine which you will dance with myself or one of my helpers in front of an examiner. Exams are taken in a relaxed and friendly manner and last only a few minutes. You are then given a mark and progress on to the next medal. Once you pass you will be awarded with a certificate and a trophy!

Taking a medal is not compulsory but are a great way or tracking your progress, as well as feeling a sense of achievement. Medal exams are open to people of all ages and ability.

We aim to provide booster group lessons in the run up to medal tests in order to give you the best possible chance to do your best. All medal tests are held in conjunction with the UKA.

MEDAL AND OPEN COMPETITIONS

Medal competitions are a great and fun way to take your dancing to another level. Medal competitions are held around the country where all the dance schools around the UK come together to compete amongst one another. Again you would dance with myself or one of my helpers against people of similar age and ability. They may sound daunting at first, but they really are great fun.

Medal competitions are not only a great experience for the dancers but also for the spectators too. We always encourage people to come along and show their support to their friends and give them a cheer on the floor!

Again, we would hold booster lessons in the lead up to a competition to give you the opportunity to dance your best on the day. In these lessons, we would teach you how to present yourself on the floor, how to avoid being bumped on the floor and give tips on the best costumes and hair styles to have!

Open competitions are similar to medal competitions in that again, you dance against other competititors of a similar age and ability; however you dance with your own partner rather than your teacher. Their is no restriction on what steps you can dance and you can enter a number of different events at a single competition. Though open competitions can feel more like you are 'going solo' at Step by Step, we are on hand to give you guidance every step of the way!
