LATEST NEWS - 2018

End of Year Dance Party!

To celebrate our last group classes of 2018, we will be holding an end of year dance social at Oswestry Memorial Hall on Friday 14th December!

This will be an informal evening with plenty of great music to dance along to, as well as an opportunity to socialise with everyone.

For those of you who will be taking part in the medal test, we will be awarding your medals and certificates to you during the evening. The medal testers will then have the opportunity to perform one of their dances, which they have been working hard on, in front of their fellow class-goers.

There will be a few nibbles available but please feel free to bring your own food/drink.

Cost for the evening is just £7 for adults and £6 for children. You can book in advance or feel free to turn up on the door. It would be lovely to see people from all our different classes and locations there, to celebrate another year of dancing at Step By Step Dance Instructio

North Midlands Trophy Day!

Many thanks to Damien Hey for inviting me to present the trophies to the winners and finalists at the North Midlands Trophy Day, held at Harper Adams University in Shropshire.

The standard of dancing throughout the day was very high from both the children and adults and it was an honour to be able to them to award their trophies to them. Congratulations to Damien and his team for putting on a well run and fun competition.

Special well done to Step By Steps very own Luca and Lucy and Keith and Jill, who competed on the day and danced amazingly to make the finals in their respective events. I was very proud of you the 4 of you, keep up the hard work!

The Autumn Ball!

Hosted by Ross' teachers, Paul and Paulene Taylor, we were treated to a sumptuous 3 course dinner, after which we were entertained by some top demonstration dancing by British Champions, Kyle and Izabela and top Junior couple, Will and Lucy-Mae.

With excellent music provided by Paul Fielding, we then danced the evening away with plenty of Ballroom, Latin  and Sequence dancing, as well as Becky's personal favourite.....the macarena!!

Thank you to Paul and Paulene for running a lovely evening and we look forward to attending again next year.

Strictly Stafford 2018!

Myself and Becky are delighted and honoured to once again be taking part in 'Strictly Stafford,' which will be on Friday, 23rd November at the Stafford County Showground.

We have just 8 weeks to train 7 absolute beginner dancers to perform in front of 400 people, including special guest judge Chloe Hewitt of Strictly Come Dancing!

Last year, we helped raise £25000 for Katharine House Hospice, a fantastic local charity which does great work in the local community and we hope to raise a similar figure this year.

We would like to send our deep thanks to Danny Bell, for once again inviting us to take part in this great event. If any of you would like tickets for the event, or would like to donate in any way, please send us a message!

'Wood & Sohl' Dance Award!

Step By Step are delighted to announce the 'Wood & Sohl Dance Award'!

Together, Becky and I will decide who will win the award each year. It is important to us for the trophy to be awarded to an individual or couple who stand out, not necessarily as the best dancers, but perhaps for their dedication, improvement or resilience etc.

The 'Wood & Sohl' Dance Award will be awarded at our next dance social on the 20th May. The winner will be able to keep the plaque until the next year!

Named after one of the best ballroom couples in the world at the time, John Wood and Julie Sohl, the trophy was very kindly passed on to us by Julie, a trophy they won in Holland in 1975! We would like to send our most heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Julie for this. It will be an honour for us to look after this historic trophy and keep it within the dance world for many years to come.

We hope you will all be able to join us for our dance social on the 20th May, and find out who our 2018 winner or winners are!
